Play Kitchen from Entertainment Center Part 1

Hello my fantastic followers! Well Christmas is right around the corner and with the tight budget this year due to recently moving, my husband and I started brainstorming on what Aurora's "big gift" could be this year. So we started poking around my favorite site Pintrest and discovered this play kitchen that we both loved and it was the closest match to our entertainment center. Now we started with our existing entertainment center that did not fit our new TV and we purchased for $0 on craigslist! Yes, you read that right we got it from the free section! So far we were doing great on the budget. So here is the entertainment center before (sorry all the stuff this was taken before we moved):

My wonderful husband took off all the doors and hardware for me so I had a blank slate:

And I laid all my shelves out and started priming all the pieces:

All of my primed pieces (along with my kitchen chairs that I am also working on):

I ended up doing 3-4 coats of prime because I wanted to prevent doing multiple coats of the color paint. The reason is that we found a quart on clearance of a color we liked for only $4.50 so I had to make it last! So here are the doors and main shelf along with the unit after the paint:

I love how the color came out! It will look so good in the kids playroom!

I look forward to working on it more in the next few days and will keep you updated on the whole process! Oh and have I mentioned that I need to have it done by Tuesday since my hubby and I are going out of town for our Anniversary? Should be a fun-filled 3 nights to get this kitchen finished! Stay tuned!!!

Star Wreath Christmas Card Hanger

Hello again! So I saw this adorable star wreath Christmas Card holder on Domestically Speaking and thought it would be a great addition to our new house! So I headed on over to Hobby Lobby, which by the way was just opened 20 minutes away! I was so excited to hear about it's opening since I would read about it all the time and was so frustrated that there were no stores in California, but not anymore! So I headed to Hobby Lobby where all their Christmas Decor was 50% off so I purchased flower wire, garland, and berries for $15! I love how it turned out! This is my version on the wreath and make sure you check out Maryann's version!

And also check out our 8 foot Christmas tree! I love how it looks in our how and how it smells! My tree skirt looks tiny now so I might have to make a new one!!!

Dollar Store Version of the WS Glass Hurricane

Hello my fabulous follwers! Well we are almost all unpacked and you know me, I couldn't wait to decorate for Christmas! So I only did half of my normal decorations until I finish un-packing and I started with the Dollar Store Version of the Williams Sonoma Glass Hurricane that Melissa from 320 Sycamore made. Make sure you head over there and check out the detailed directions! So look forward to this and more Christmas decor in the next few days. On a side note, my sister just got engaged! I am so happy for her and excited to see what things we can make for her wedding so stay tuned to that! And here is my version of the hurricane on my newly re-done mantle :)

I'm Coming Home!

Hello my Fabulous Followers! It has been way too long and I have missed you all so much! After a much needed break I am back on the blogosphere and ready for action! Starting December 1st you will see much more crafts and projects that I love to share as well as some that I am doing for my new house! Yes! My husband and I are no longer apartment renters and are renting a house! We are very excited (me more than him) for more space for us and the kids and more space to decorate!!!! I cannot wait to be able to decorate all the blank walls of our new home and what better time to start than my favorite time of the year...Christmas!!! I love Christmas time and I LOVE the color red and use it to decorate all the time so Christmas is an excuse to use it even more! So I hope you will join me in my journey back to One Crafty Mommy as we experience wonderful crafts together!!! See you all very soon!!!

Spring Banner

www.Hello my Fabulous Followers! It feels so good to be posting about a craft again! Here is a little background on what I have been up to!

As you all know when I was pregnant I became sick and tired and had no energy what-so-ever so I put the crafting in storage and went on a hiatus. My little man was born 11-18-10 and my hubby started a new job 11-29-10 an hour away. Obviously I was in no condition to move so he had to live with friends on ours during the week while I stayed back with our little girl and brand new baby boy. This was not a fun time and there were many tears shed on those long, lonely nights. So as soon as I was feeling up to it we went apartment hunting and signed the lease on 12-15-10! We slowly moved in and were officially all together on 1-8-11. It was so nice to be a family again and to have OUR OWN SPACE after living with my in-laws for 2 years! I have slowly unpacked while adjusting to life with 2 kids and no family wihhin an hour for physical support. So it has been a slow process but we are all moved in and settled.

My little man has been sleeping through the night 12 hours (have I mentioned that he is a chubster...4 1/2 months old and 19 lbs!) so we are transitioning him into the same room as my daughter which means the corner of my room where is crib is now will soon become my craft corner! I am so excited to begin crafting/scrapbooking again and to share my ideas as well as other crafters wonderful ideas with you!!! So this will be a slow coming back process but it feels so good! I will also be making a custom look for my blog again and if you would like to see it as well as other custom blogs, invitations, announcements, etc check out my design site SH Designs that I just launched!

So the first craft I decided to do was a Spring Banner since my little girl was adament on having flowers in the living room so this is the next bext thing! I bought wooden flowers from Michaels, modge-podged them, inked the edges, and glued them to twine!

I love how it turned out and my daughter even helped!

I will leave this up all Spring and then do a star banner for summer because as you can see we are a very patriotic family!

Just to See You Smile

I can't believe we have been here for 2 1/2 months already! We are settling in quite nice and are enjoying every minute of our new home. Sometimes it gets a little crowded in our 2 bedroom apartment which is why it is nice to have our patio as well as a playground right outside our door. In the summer it will be nice to go out to the pool area as well. I will upload pictures in the next few days because I know all of you want to see it! But for now I will leave you with an adorable picture of the little man who is 4 months old on Friday!

Hello my fantabulous followers! Wow it has been awhile since I have been on here. I would like to start posting again soon now that my little man has arrived! Caleb Ryder was born on November 18, 2010 at 12:40a.m. He came 3 weeks early so it was a nice surprise for Thanksgiving! We are so excited he is here and now that he is I am hoping to start crafting his cute little milestones and such. So look forward to some cute ideas! I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving! Hello my fantabulous readers! I know it has been way too long since I have been on here and I apologize for that. As you all know I am pregnant due this coming December. I just finished my 1st trimester which felt like I hit a brick wall and still does. Each day I barely get out of bed to get my daughter up and have a hard time staying awake. I take a nap when she allows me (so when she takes a nap) and am in bed shortly after she goes down. Even with all this sleep I am getting I am still exhausted. So I have had no energy to do any crafts which is why I made the decision to temporarily pack up my crafts and put them in storage. This was a sad decision but with no energy and our moving date approaching I decided it was inevitable and needed to be done.

On a more exciting note, my husband graduated today from the Verdugo Power Academy and is now a certified lineman.

Next step, find a job! This will be our main focus in the next few months as we find him a job, find a place, move out, and start our lives together. During this time I will continue to be on a hiatus from crafting but wil try to get on here every now and then to give you updates as well as feature cute crafts I discover. Amanda will still graciously give us Fashionable Fridays each week so even during this time of exhaustion and excitement, we can all look our best.
I want to thank you all for being such fantabulous readers and understanding that I need some time off. I am hoping in the future I will be able to get more energy and start crafting again once we have our own place. Thank you again for all your understanding and I hope to talk to you soon!!!!

Hello my fantabulous followers!! I hope you have all had a fantastic week and are looking forward to an even better weekend! Thank you so much for all of your congratulations to our exciting news! I am 8 weeks preggo so I am having some sickness which makes it hard to have the energy to craft after having a 2 1/2 year old all day. This time is harder than the first since I can't lay down whenever I want with the munchkin constantly needing me. My hubby has been super helpful though and takes her when he gets home for a bit to give me a breather since I am sick from noon to midnight everyday. I am so blesses to have him as my hubby and can't wait to see his reaction to this pregnancy (since he deployed last time when I was 4 1/2 months along.) So we are all very excited especially Aurora who has already told us she wants a baby sister! It is going to be fun to see her reactions as well once the baby starts kicking and all the fun stuff.

Hello crafty mommies and Crafty Mommy readers! I am so excited to be posting over here today on One Crafty Mommy! I LOVE Shannon's blog and all her cute and creative ideas! But then head right back to see the "cheeky" project we're working on!
Now a little about me before we start! I have been living in Arizona and happily married to the hubs for 6.5 years and am a SAHM of my sweet little boy Asher. Who is SIX MONTHS TODAY!! (Ummm...I'd just like to know how that happened so fast!) One of my favorite days of the week is Wordless Wednesday when I get to update my readers with a pic of my little man! It's incredible how much change can take place in just one week! And my second favorite day....Field Trip Friday! So let's get on with it shall we!

Today's Project:

"Cheeky" Caution Sign

One thing I did not mention is that I AM CANADIAN (sorry I felt the need for caps!) I was born on Vancouver Island but from 4th through 11th grade lived in the way frozen north in a little town called Fort St. John. The inspiration for this project wasn't something I'd see everyday but they were definitely around! This idea came to me completely out of the blue one morning and I could not wait to try it!

Hee hee hee! I just can't wait to show this to his future girlfriends! Bwahahahah! You could also add a hook and make this a {Too Cute Towel Hanger}! Making this was pretty simple, $1.00 square wood frame from Michaels, Yellow Paint and Vinyl thanks to {Marni at Choose The Writing}! I printed the picture at home so the whole project cost $4.00 (and a few cents worth of paint!)

Today I would like to do a tutorial about how I made Glazed Wall Art for my bathroom.
But really - you can use it in any room!

I needed something so fun for the walls and I wanted a lot of color
to make the room pop a little.
First: Gather your supplies!
You will need:

12x12 scrapbook Paper
12x12 Plywood
"Pour-On" Glaze
Spray Adhesive
Glue Gun
Ribbon
Plastic Cups

Second: Spray the back of your paper with the adhesive
and glue them to the plywood.
(hint:) I had my hubby cut up a sheet of plywood in advance.
We found it in the lumber section at Home Depot and
one small sheet made 8 12x12 pieces.
I am making some without the glaze for my spare bedroom.

Third: Cover your table and set the wood up on plastic cups.
Make sure your cups are all they way underneath the wood,
so if you do happen to drip a little, it doesn't stick to the cups.

Fourth: Mix and Mix and Mix your Pour-On.
This is the same stuff you use for the Glazed Washer Necklaces.

Fifth: Pour it onto your paper and spread it evenly around.
I used the back of a plastic spoon, but you can use a Popsicle stick too.

(Hint:) The glaze will turn your paper a little bit see-through -
it's not big deal unless the back has really funky designs on it.
Most scrapbook paper has a plain color or white back which work better
than those with dots or other things.
Three of my papers had little designs on the back - Two looked really awesome!
One - went in the garbage.Sixth: Let them dry for a day or two.
Seventh: Flip your art work over and measure 6 inches to find the middle.

Eighth: Hot glue your ribbon on the back.

Ninth: Hang them up and enjoy!!

Rag-Tie Snuggle Blanket Re-Vamp

Hello my Fantabulous Followers! Yesterday I swapped blogs with Ashley from Simply Designing! If you missed it here is what I put together:
Today I want to show you a different version of my rag-tie snuggle blanket that I have made in the past. This is for a friend's baby shower so I did not want to do the traditional pictures on one side. I went to the store and purchased all of my supplies:

-Print Fleece
-Plain Fleece
-Stciky Back Felt
-Embroidery Floss
-Additional Fabric

I first started out by printing out the letters onto cardstock to make a template. Once cut I traced them backwards onto the paper side of the sticky felt. Cut out letters.

I then arranged onto plain fleece and stuck them on. Now this is "cheating" but it does make it so much easier to work with the letters having them stuck on. (If you do not like the look of the felt you can always cute out fabric letters and iron them on with wonder under.)

Once the letters are in place you can either sew them with the machine, or use embroidery floss by hand. I opted for the floss because I love the look of it. However, because the fabric and the felt are so thick, it took me about 2 1/2 hours for each letter and many bruises on my fingers. (I had to try it once, I will probably never do it again.)

After that was completed I made the fabric flowers following this easy tutorial. (The only change I made was using felt centers for the flowers instead of buttons since that is a chocking hazard.) I then sewed the flowers onto the blanket.

I then assembled the blanket following this tutorial from the blankets I have made before.

I think it turned out so cute and the mom-to-be loved it!

Ok. Now. On to the GOOD stuff!

I am so excited to be guest posting here today. I am actually going to show off a tutorial that I have not posted on my site! So this is new to you, followers of One Crafty Mommy, and new to my followers of Simply Designing! What a fun day for all!

Today, I am going to show you how to make a very very SIMPLE TuTu and a fancy matching hair accessory! Seriously. This is so simple and there is no sewing involved!

It is easy to make, inexpensive, quick to finish and it is sure to make any little girl squeal with joy! What a great project!

Here is what you will need:

(1) hair elastic / pony tail holder

(1) elastic headband

approx. 60' of ribbon (I used ribbon that was 1.5" wide)

scissors and a measuring tape / ruler

For mine, I used two different ribbons but you can use 1, 2 or even more different ribbons, you will just want about 60' in total length.

Ribbon TuTu:

Cut 24 lengths of ribbon, each about 2' long (I angled the bottom of my ribbon).
Put the elastic headband around your legs to help keep it in place while you work.

(nice photo huh? :-)

Tie the ribbons on the elastic headband so that both "tails" are about equal in length.
If using different ribbons, alternate them.
Continue to tie all 24 ribbon lengths on the headband.
Voila! Your TuTu is done!

Ribbon Hair Accessory:

Cut 10 lengths of ribbon, each about 1' long (I angled the bottom of my ribbon)
Tie the ribbons on the elastic pony tail holder so that both "tails" are equal in length as above.
If using different ribbons, alternate them.
Continue to tie all 10 ribbon lengths on the hair elastic.
Voila! Your Fancy Ribbon Hair Tie is done!

Your final step?!?

Let the special little girl in your life squeal with joy and become the prettiest fairy / princess / ballerina ever!

I feel like I have been a bad hostess to you! I have not done a craft on here is quite some time now it is just sad. Instead on "One Crafty Mommy" it should be "One Lazy Mommy." I swear I have had no motivation lately but do not fear, because I'm back!

Getting To Know You Sunday!

Happy Sunday! I hope you all have had an amazing weekend with your family and friends. It is time for another getting to know you Sunday over at Mannland!

Let's see..growing up I lived in 4 different places, and during 3 years of our marriage we have lived 4 different places with one more coming this summer!

Rag-Tie Scarf

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. The funeral is this Saturday in Iowa so unfortunately we are unable to attend due to my husbands school schedule. My FIL is on a plane right now to Iowa to be with his father and siblings during this difficult time. We are keeping our routine the same and living life to the fullest just as Jerra would want. Thank you again.

This is a re-post but all of my friends have been asking me to show how to make this again so here it is!

As most of you know I am a big believer of making cute, easy, inexpensive things that you and your kids will love. So before Christmas I sat down and tried to come up with something along that line for my daughter. The first thing I made her was a rag tie scarf. As you have already seen in this previous post that I did, it is really easy to do rag tie. First you start off with however much fleece you would like to use. I bought half a yard since I wanted to make a skinny scarf since my daughter is only 2. Btw...I got a steal at Joann's on a fleece! It was originally 15 a yard which was on sale for 7.30 and I only bought half a yard which made this less than a 4 dollar scarf! Anyway, back to the tutorial...

Place equal size pieces of fabric wrong side towards each other.

Cut 2.5 x 2.5 inch squares from all four corners (or bigger depending on width of scraf) Cut 2.5 inch slits 1 inch apart on all four sides.

Tie the strips together following this tutorial and you have an adorable, inexpensive scarf to keep yout munchkin warm!

Blue Cricket Design: Show and Tell Wednesday

A Sad Day...

It is a sad day in the Hons Household. About 45 minutes ago I was on my way to work when my husband called and informed me his grandmother passed away. This is his father's (whom we live with) mom so it is really hitting us hard. She has been having some illness for the past year in which the doctors have been trying to figure out what is going on. They live in Iowa while their children live in Arizona and California so they have had to deal with the doctors via telephone. About a week ago she was hospitalized due to having a diabetic episode. They have been running tests ever since and determined she was well enough to go home. On the way home from the hospital she passed away, while his grandpa was driving her. She was 81(?) while he is 82(?). We don't know any more information at this time since it just happened today and we are all in shock.
She leaves behind 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchilren(one of which is my munchkin). This previous summer my hubby, daughter, and I were blessed with being able to spend 4 days with her in her home while on a family road trip. She was always full of love, life, and compassion. She will be missed tremendously. As you can understand I will not be on too much in the next few days while this sinks in. Please keep our family in your prayers, especially my hubby, his mom, and his dad. Thank you.

I Heart Faces: Bundled Up

Hello my Fantabulous Followers! This week for the first time ever I am participating in I Heart Faces Photo Challenge. Now mind you I am in no way a professional photographer and I don't have a professional camera. But I do love to take pictures whenever possible, especially of my little munchkin! This week's theme is "Bundled Up" and I thought this picture was perfect. I took it on our trip to Colorado in December 2007 when the munchkin was only 5 months old! Yikes! Super Crafty Saturday 2

Happy Saturday! So as I was lying in bed at night (which is where I do most of my thinking) I thought that since the weekends are usually crazy with sports, kids activities, and everything else under the sun, I am going to move our party to Saturdays. So starting next week it will be called Super Crafty Saturday in which the party will open Friday night at 6:00 p.m. PST and stay open until Monday morning at 6:00 a.m. PST. This is will give all of you fantabulous followers plently of time to link up your projects! As for today we will start the party right now and it will stay open until 6:00 a.m. PST on Monday. Wife to my best friend, and SAHM to three beautiful children. Two girls and one boy, ages 4, 3, and 9 months. I'm a cycle and group fitness instructor, addicted triathlete, and am currently training for my first half IronMan in June.
Whenever I can, I like to fit in some craft time. I recently became a "chef" over at Moda Bake Shop, and get to post "recipes", like this Valentine's Day Bubble Skirt over there every now and then. I'm really excited about an Easter project I'm doing over there on the 26th, so watch for that!

Rag-Tie Snuggle Blanket

Happy Wednesday! I hope you all enjoyed my blog swap yesterday and if you did not get a chance to see my tutorial here it is:

Today I will show you how to make an adorable Rag Tie Snuggle Blanket for your kids! Instead of doing a traditional blanket, I decided to make one similar to the one I made my daughter while my husband was deployed. I bought iron on sheets and printed pictures of him. She got quite a bit of use out of it and still sleeps with it every night:

For this blanket I printed pictures of our entire family (35 people) and ironed them onto the cotton fabric.

Supplies:

-1/2 yard snuggle flannel (can adjust size depending on blanket size)

-1/2 yard cotton/polyester blend coordinating fabric (the blend makes it easier to tie)

-4 x 6 iron on transfers (as many as you would like)

-craft scissors

Print out your pictures onto the iron-on transfer paper using your home computer. (You can print plain pictures or use photoshop like I did to add names, graphics, etc.)

Peel the protective backing off the transfers and iron onto the cotton blend fabric with the directions from the package.

Once all your pictures have been ironed, place the two peices of fabric together. Cut out a 4 x 4 inch square on all four corners. This is done easily if you make a cardstock template ahead of time which can be used for your next blanket.

On all four sides, cut 4 inch long by 1 inch wide strips along the border. Make sure you cut through both pieces of fabric.

Tie the two pieces together into a double knot. (This ensures that the blaket will stay together if you need to throw it in the washing machine from time to time). Repeat this step along all four sides of the blanket.

Now you have an adorable rag tie snuggle blanket that was easy to make and will be a long-lasting keepsake for someone you love!

Hello crafty moms and new friends! My name is Stina and today I'm am so excited to be doing a blogswap with Shannon and getting to share a recent project with you all.

I love things to be beautiful, but I also believe that beauty should have a reasonable price! I love garage sale shopping, Craigslisting, getting a good bargain...AND using what I have already. Make it known to friends and family that you're always looking for materials for crafts and you will be surprised what they will share with you! Old furniture, left over paint, light fixtures that you can paint and reuse...just think of the possibilities!

Today's project was helping my cousin G with a set of vinyl children's couches that she got at a garage sale.

I'm sure the people selling them had considered just throwing them out since the seats were torn and dirty. Well, G saw the potential, got them, cleaned them up and gave me a call.

She had considered taking them all teh way apart, removing the vinyl, recovering the wooden frame with new stuffing and then using som awesome chocolate brown upholstry material...and maybe some of you would be up for that task...but I am a "Get it done quick" kind of crafter so we cut patterns out of some scrap cloth of how we thought we could cover them whole using two pieces of cloth. We used dowells that we cut to fit in the cracks between the sides of the chairs and the seat cushion.

You can see one sticking out here (they were completely hidden when we were done). These held the fabric to the seat in place. Then we used a staple gun to attach the fabric to the back and underneath. We also got some nice furniture tacks from Lowes for the back, they helped to keep the fabric flat as well as added something extra to the chairs.

I loved this project because we took some old chairs that were on their last leg and gave them new life to be enjoyed by a new family, we did it quickly (becuase we all already have TOO MUCH to do in our lives) and we did it cheap (because there are enough things eating away at the checkbook without letting our love of projects and decor add to it)!

Red, White, & Bloomin'

Hello! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend with your family! We had a lot of fun and I am sad to see it end because that means another week of the hubby being in school all day long and studying all night. Even though it is hard this is going to be great for our family and we are 3 weeks down and 13 weeks to go!!! Now on to something great!

Anytime I hear something about the military my ears perk up. As most of you know my hubby got out of the Marines in August so now I have gone from a Marine Wife to a Veteran's Wife. Well I am excited to say that Outback Steakhouse has added a new portion to their menu called the Red, White, & Bloomin'. Here is what Outback says:

"Order off our limited time Red, White and Bloomin' menu in the month of March and help us donate $1,000,000 to Operation Homefront. Select from our two new steak and shrimp combinations: the Outback Special® or the Victoria's Filet® & your choice of shrimp (Grilled Shrimp on the Barbie, Gold Coast Coconut Shrimp, or Shrimp Scampi) as well as many of our signature items. Operation Homefront provides assistance for our troops, their families, and wounded warriors when they return home."

What I am asking is that next time you are thinking about going out to dinner with your family, try and go to Outback. I know it is a little more expensive than most places but not only will you get mazing food but you will be helping a wonderful cause supporting military families. Thanks!

My Little World Blog Feature

Happy Friday! I hope all you fantabulous readers are having a great day in anticipation of the weekend! Even though it is supposed to rain here in "sunny" southern California it will still be a fantastic weekend! Speaking on fantastic, today I am here to introduce you to an amazing fellow blogger Melissa.

Melissa has the adorable blog My Little World: choo-choos, cars & lipgloss. She is a very happy and busy Mommy to two adorable little boys, Aiden (3) and new baby Holden and a loving wife to a great guy, Matt. They just moved from a small town in east Tennessee to the Nation's capital! She is currently trying to finish grad school and has been given the wonderful opportunity to be a stay at home mom for the next year or so.

Her blog is filled with everyday moments that we all have been through but almost every post I am cracking up. Especially when she posts pictures like these:

First Fashionable Friday

Hello Fantabulous Followers and welcome to the very first Fashionable Friday! Each Friday we will show you an outfit that is both practical and budget-friendly. Some weeks we will also show you outfits for those rarely seen date nights. As a mom we always put ourselves last, making sure everyone else is taken care of. Well no more! We want you all to get out of those sweat-wearing, no makeup, un-brushed hair ruts that we tend to get in. Well I have enlisted the help of my bestie Amanda from Fashionista on a Dime and together we are bringing you Fashionable Fridays!

Amanda and I met each other 7 years ago when we worked together at David's Bridal. (If you need any wedding advise we are the girls for you!) We have been through both of our weddings, the birth of my daughter, and my hubby coming home from Iraq together. We are so close we even married best friends! I started selling AVON and MARK about a year ago and love their products so much I have to stop myself from buying everything. While I have never been a big fan of dressing up, I love exploring everyday outfits that are both stylish and budget-friendly. Baby Shower Gift Idea #1

Happy Thursday! I hope you all are getting excited for the weekend. I know I am! Not only because my hubby will be home but also because we are going to a couples baby shower! I am so excited to have my hubby go with me (esp since I don't know the mom-to-be that well) but it will be so much fun. I am also excited because of all the gifts I am making them! The next few days I will show off what I have made. I wanted to show you the first one real quick before I go fight with my daughter about taking a nap lol.

These were so easy to make that I made 2 in 5 minutes and they cost me less than a dollar each. I cannot wait to make more for the muchkin! I followed Michelle's tutorial @Land of the Misfit Toys. She gives you pictures for each step so it is so easy to do! I hope you like them! Enjoy!

As of April 2010, One Crafty Mommy has over 280 followers and recieves over 5,000 hits per month. One Crafty Mommy has been featured on various sites and blogs as well!
